All pipelines must be disinfected prior to connection to the Irish Water Network. We carry out the complete disinfection sequence to IW-CDS-5020-03 (Section 4.10.5), including preparation of a method statement with drawings submitted to the Irish Water field engineer for approval before commencing. Dosing is achieved using a calibrated dosing pump with sodium hypochlorite solution. Free chlorine levels are verified using a Palintest Lumiso chlorine photometer at the beginning and end of the contact period. Following disinfection, the Main is flushed, refilled with potable water, and left to stand for 24 hours before water quality samples are taken for analysis at an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.

What We Carry Out

  • Method statement with drawings showing disinfectant insertion points and sample points submitted to Irish Water field engineer for approval before commencing
  • Minimum 20 mg/L free available chlorine at the start of a 24-hour contact period — maximum 30 mg/L not to be exceeded
  • Sodium hypochlorite solution dosed via calibrated dosing pump; dosage calculated per IW-CDS-5020-03 Table
  • Palintest Lumiso chlorine photometer used for on-site free chlorine measurement — results recorded with sample location, date and time
  • Minimum 10 mg/L free chlorine maintained at end of 24-hour contact period at all sample points; disinfection repeated if criterion not met
  • De-chlorination of all discharge water prior to disposal to sewer or watercourse — discharge to Irish Water sewers only with express IW approval
  • Flushing with potable water until free chlorine of discharge water is within 5% of incoming feed water
  • Main refilled and left 24 hours; on-site checks for residual chlorine, appearance, taste and odour before off-site sampling
  • Off-site microbiological and chemical analysis at ISO 17025 accredited laboratory with chain-of-custody tracking — Coliform Bacteria, E. Coli, Enterococci, Clostridium Perfringens, pH, Turbidity, Conductivity
  • Connection to Network not permitted until satisfactory water quality analysis submitted to Irish Water (IW-CDS-5020-03, 4.12)
